Unleashing Dreams in a City That Never Stops
Singapore is known for its world-class education, modern infrastructure, and rich multicultural heritage. The city is safe, vibrant and future-oriented. If you decide to study abroad in Singapore, you surely won’t get bored, because there are plenty of places to explore!
Beyond academics, Singapore offers an incredible cultural and lifestyle experience. Explore architectural highlights, as contemporary Singapore architecture is not only visually impressive, it also focuses on sustainability. Due to Singapore being a melting pot of cultures, it’s highly recommended to delve into neighborhoods like Chinatown, Little India, and Kampong Glam. Experience different cultures, and even more important: different cuisines! Especially the budget-friendly street food is popular amongst students.

Singapore isn’t called “The Garden City” for no reason. The nickname is referring to the plethora of beautiful gardens all over Singapore, such as Gardens by the Bay, Singapore Botanic Gardens, Cloud Forest and many more. If you’re a nature enthusiast – or want to become one – one thing you shouldn’t miss out on is the MacRitchie Reservoir. You’ll find a variety of nature walks and hiking trails there, including a TreeTop Walk!

Meet JCU – an Australian university in Singapore
James Cook University was originally founded in Queensland, Australia. As you might have guessed already, JCU was named after Captain James Cook. The first campus of JCU is located where Cook landed in Australia as an explorer. Nowadays, there are three campuses spread all over Queensland, specifically in Cairns, Townsville and Brisbane.

The JCU Singapore campus was established in 2003, in order to promote internationalization. It’s fully owned by JCU Australia and is the only Australian institution with university status in Singapore. For their own students JCU offers an Intercampus Exchange Program between Singapore and the Australian campuses. International collaboration is one of JCU’s focal points, and all of their offered courses are taught in English.
Benefits of studying at James Cook University
JCU is following a trimester system, which means there are three 16-week study terms per year. One intake is in January, one in May and one in September. The trimester system makes it possible to speed up the studies, since one trimester equals one semester at other universities.
You can complete a bachelor’s degree within two years, instead of the usual three years. And a master’s degree can be completed within one year even, instead of the usual two years. Which means that you could receive both a bachelor’s and master’s degree within three years, while elsewhere you would only receive a bachelor’s degree in that time.

Wide Range of Programs – What to Study at JCU Singapore
JCU Singapore offers courses from a large amount of study fields, including business, tourism & management, information technology, education, psychology, accounting, aquaculture, environmental science, games design, commerce and economics. The curriculum at JCU is constantly being updated, so you don’t need to worry that you will be visiting outdated lectures or courses. You can choose if you want to spend a semester abroad at JCU or study a whole bachelor’s or master’s degree there.
A usual week at JCU Singapore contains about 12 hours of lectures, tutorials and support. The rest of the time you will study on your own, and complete tasks individually or in teams. The lectures happen in smaller groups of maximum 30-40 students. Learning in smaller groups makes it possible to interact much more with the lecturer, as well as with the other students. All of your individual questions be answered, and active discussions are part of the classes.

Inside JCU Singapore: Modern Facilities for Next-Level Learning
The JCU Singapore campus is located right in the middle of Singapore, only three metro stops away from the city hall. Commuting to the campus is very easy, especially due to Singapore’s reliable public transportation system. Instead of building a whole new campus, JCU decided to set up the Singapore campus in the previous facilities of a high school. That way resources were saved, and a central location of the campus could be ensured.
Besides general lecture halls and classrooms, the campus also features some more special facilities, such as an aqua culture lab and a financial lab. JCU has an e-library, which is accessible for students from all JCU campuses. You can also find a small physical library on campus. However, the focus is more on renting e-books.

For students’ wellbeing and leisure activities, they have access to a gym as well as a soccer court, basketball court and a cricket court directly on campus. There is also an on-campus psychology clinic, not only for students, but also low-income residents from Singapore.
Additionally, JCU has many other campus activities to offer, such as club drive, games day, spread the coffee and Christmas carnival. Students are very welcome to join a variety of student clubs, for example the aquaculture club, banking and finance club, marketing club, dance club and many more!
To support students’ employment, an on-campus career fair is held twice a year. It’s mainly targeted at soon to be graduating students, but open to other students as well. Additionally, the careers office is open to students all around the year. Students can seek help with finding employment, building resumes, and career consultations from there.
