Study and Holiday in Japan
We offer homestays to students and adults where you will stay with a Japanese family at a fraction of the cost of staying in a hotel. You will also be able to learn the Japanese language by practising with your host and we also do offer Japanese classes conducted in an international environment. You will attend classes during weekdays and during weekends you can enjoy Japan or your choice of host city. You can also practise your Japanese when you return from classes in the evening and also learn about the Japanese culture directly from your host.
Our study plus homestay in Japan programme offers a stay and study duration from 1 week to 4 weeks. You can also request for a longer study period or request for a different programme to study besides the Japanese language (e.g. anime, manga, gaming). Many of our students continue their studies in a polytechnic or university of their choice after completing our homestay plus study programme.
What is a homestay?
It’s a chance to become a member of a Japanese family, study Japanese and of course, learn more about the culture, customs and lifestyle in Japan. Getting to Japan is as easy as buying air tickets; getting the chance to actually meet Japanese people is much more difficult. So why not make your own home away from home in Japan?
Edutravel’s homestay partner has 4,300 host families registered throughout Japan in such locations as Sapporo, Tokyo, Yokohama, Kyoto, Osaka, Kobe, and Fukuoka. If you cannot decide where to go or which family to stay with we will assist you in every way we can to make sure your stay is pleasant and fruitful. If you are going for study plus homestay, we can also assist you to find the school which is nearest to your homestay.
Homestaying in Japan
Homestaying is a relatively recent custom in Japan, and there are only a limited number of families available. So, why are we at Edutravel able to provide you with homestay families?
- Many families have someone planning to study abroad in the future through a partnering study abroad center and are willing to open their house for a homestay.
- Many other families have someone who has returned to Japan after studying abroad and are willing to take in homestay guests.

Study Plus Homestay
Just as the name suggests, Japanese language school is the place to go if you want to study Japanese full time. Unlike most universities or vocational schools, you can start from a complete beginner level, and generally study however long you would like. Many students go on to study at other schools after Japanese language school.
Many schools also teach the unspoken “rules” and customs of Japan, giving you a deeper understanding of the country and people. The best thing about Japanese language school is, you can make friends from around the world, something that is usually not possible with just a homestay.

Our Tokyo Package includes a Japanese language course at Intercultural Institute of Japan which has been established since 1977. All levels of Japanese language are available and you will join students from various other nationalities in your class.
